Moreton Bay College, Manly West

Pre-Prep Facility

Description:
The brief from MBC was to create a purpose built facility that was a safe and nurturing. An environment where children can grow and develop through play-based programs. Connecting indoor and outdoor spaces, the brief was to place the child at the very centre of learning, while the design needed to allow for uninterrupted surveillance by staff. An open plan with indoor learning spaces connect purposefully to enjoy access to the outdoors, the children are encouraged to inquire, discover, create and explore their own thinking in facilitating what the school referred to as “stepping stone” to Prep. A close collaboration with the head of primary, and Pre-Prep staff ensured the facilities were built on the tight timeframe available while addressing all safety concerns. This approach ensured a faster approval for Queensland Government Approved Kindergarten Program, necessary for the January opening.

I was very satisfied with the overall outcome of the project, especially the design aspects that were suggested by BA Architects that were not originally in the brief. BA Architects came up with many great design ideas that we hadn’t thought of and were incorporated into the final design of the home. I appreciated the level of detail and consideration BA Architects went to, especially the recommendations for specific sustainable materials and products, which created our Brisbane home.

Everyone who I dealt with was really on the ball. Bruno and Greg understood our needs in organising council approvals and certification on my behalf. That was great as it took everything off my hands. We would definitely consider completing another residential project with BA Architects.
